Porte de Louvre, Les Halles.
Everybody hates the Forum des Halles, the tacky 1970s underground pit-mall in central Paris, and since 2005 at least, the city has been “consulting” on plans for a remodeling. We go there every once in a while to see a film or buy something from FNAC. I won’t say I like it, but its Logan’s Run-style awfulness is growing on me a bit. I like looking at all the teenagers in from the burbs, in small doses. And two-plus years in Europe have given me a more visceral appreciation for modernist and post-modernist architecture, even the shitty stuff. Surrounded by all this carefully tended heritage, I get why people go crazy and want to rip it all down every once in a while.
